The coronavirus has come for Fashion Week, but Fashion Week is unbowed. With the 2020 edition of show season going all-digital, the key designers talk us through how they've adapted to showing clothes in a world where showing clothes is (almost) impossible.
What’s been the biggest challenge with producing a lockdown fashion ‘show’?
Now that the world and people are confused and scared, I was worried about how I could share my 'passion' with my atelier staff and keep everyone involved with my collection motivated. But they were more passionate than ever!
What’s been the biggest opportunity?
Besides the creation, I have more time to think about the people around me.
How have you seen the fashion community come together in the past few months?
Not sure… we have a long way to go and it’s still very divided in a way, but we seem to be taking positive steps in the industry.
Is this a watershed moment for the fashion industry?
I don't know if it's serious or not, but since I started worked in fashion, the fashion industry has become obese, and has completely changed from what it used to be. This kind of mindless consumption seemed irreparable, so hopefully this big shift will be an opportunity for real change.
Who is your favourite designer at the moment?
Street style is impossible this year. Is that a good or a bad thing?
im电竞官网-In my opinion – good.
What kind of role do you think a fashion show will play in five years?
Nobody knows. Can you imagine a model wearing a mask walking on the runway?
What has been your favourite show of all time?
For Mihara? All of my shows I guess! There’s a strong theme running through them from season to season which I feel gives them a distinct consistency.
If your SS21 collection had a philosophy/mantra, what would it be?
I have always had the same approach to my work: "Sublime meets ridiculous".
Can you pick one piece or look from SS21 that defines your collection?
I think that the possibilities of collections are expanded by combining unique ideas like a puzzle. So there is no reason for me to choose one.
If money was no object, talk us through your dream fashion show.
Good ideas for me tend to come out of the restrictions I’m working within, so actually having an endless budget for a show would be very tricky for me. I thrive on pushing the boundaries.
Who would be on your perfect front row?
im电竞官网- Anyone who loves our creations is welcome.
